Our local community is putting considerable effort into creating a free camping site from the old Pakeho School reserve. Several old dead trees have been removed and the area is being fenced off from surrounding farmland. The site is just off the road and sheltered by a belt of trees.
Facilities are basic but include:
Grass areas for tents
Flat concrete pad, great for parking campers
Flush Toilet
Sink
Drinking water supply
Shed with fixed bench seats for shelter
BBQ (steel plate over an open fire) - please observe any fire bans in effect
Comming soon - a coat of paint for the shed and toilet, possibly a shower (cold) and some sort of picnic table and chairs.
Don't expect anything flash like beautifully manicured lawns and gardens!!
You will need your usual camping gear and some means of cooking. There is no power, lighting or phone. There are a few rules:
No long term camping
No dogs
Turn off the taps
Please stay on the reserve, the surrounding land is private farmland
